W North, member of the growing Scaleup NE community, has been named the North East’s outstanding PR agency at the region’s annual CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) awards ceremony.
The new consultancy, established in April last year by London based W Communications, won a hat-trick of awards on the night, also picking up Best Consumer Relations Campaign and Best Event for its campaign to take art brand Reeves to the people of London, Dublin and Manchester.
W North, which now has ten full time staff, is W Communications’ second UK office and was opened to offer extended insight and knowledge into W’s clients who required deeper and more meaningful communications activity in communities across the UK and works in partnership with its London office on clients including PG Tips, McGuigan Wines, Nest and Red Dog Saloon. W North has also developed a growing number of its own clients, delivering campaigns for the likes of Traidcraft, Lane7, Revolution and Steampunk Gin.
Head of W North, Christian Cerisola said: “We’ve come a long way in a really short space of time. Being recognised by our peers in the CIPR as the best in the region is testament to the growing team here. It’s been an incredible start that we’re intent on building on rapidly in 2019.”
The CIPR judges commented: “W North are clearly successful, fast-growing and have a strong business strategy. The judges were especially pleased to see a demonstrable commitment to development and to the PR profession in such a new company.”
Having joined Scaleup NE earlier this year, Christian and his Scaleup Partner, Laura Foster, have been working together to further his plans for growth within the business.
“I am delighted, but not in the least bit surprised, to see that W North has won this award", Laura said, "Since joining the programme, Christian and his team have embodied the Scaleup NE philosophy of being open to ideas, introductions, and community collaboration. They have participated in a range of special Scaleup NE development opportunities, worked directly with me to curate an event focused on supporting other Scaleup NE businesses, and I’ve been delighted to be able to make a number of potential client introductions. They have responded to each opportunity with tremendous enthusiasm and professionalism and I’m so pleased to see them recognised among peers as being ‘outstanding’ in their field.”
Christian added: “In Laura, I’ve had a Scaleup mentor who has continued to push me and the W North team into new and unexplored areas for growth. Her enthusiasm and foresight has, in no small part, helped us to set all the foundations in order to scale at pace. I really look forward to continuing to be a part of the scaleup community Laura and her colleagues have built in the North East over the past 12 months.”
W Communications MD, Richard Tompkins added: “We’re incredibly proud of the team in Newcastle, who have exceeded our expectations at every turn and we’re pleased that the judges identified our commitment to their development as professionals. We’ve worked hard to nurture outstanding new team members who are every inch in the mould of how the wider W team deliver remarkable and impactful results for its clients. Long may the success continue.”
Multi award-winning W has grown to more than 100 staff, with successful operations in Amsterdam and Singapore, as well as Newcastle and its London HQ.
