Swishforit is a recently established global wish-list website and app that allows consumers to shop and share gift ideas through one online platform.

Trina Scott-Priestley, founder of Swishforit, hopes the brand will become as widely and frequently used as other social media apps including Pinterest and Instagram.

The business has been supported by the Scaleup North East programme since it’s conception. Swishforit launched successfully in 2019.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has reviewed its position in the market and looked at new opportunities arising from the unprecedented circumstances everyone is experiencing.

Many large retailers had to stop online deliveries due to social distancing guidelines, whilst many small independents saw a huge increase in demand. As the support for small independents grew, feedback from users highlighted that consumers found it hard to discover new independent brands. As a consequence of the overcrowding of the online world, the visibility of independents was becoming more challenging, especially for those businesses that attended physical events to promote their products.

Acknowledging the current struggles businesses were facing, Swishforit saw an opportunity to use its tech - which focuses on keeping shoppers connected to the things they want to remember for later - as a brand discovery platform.

The brand discovery platform launched on the 3rd July with over 70 local independents showcasing their products through the existing platform. Social media events, including live interviews and product showcasing, helped shoppers to see beyond the one-dimensional aspect of online shopping.

The Swishforit website allows consumers to browse a whole host of independents and view all of their products in one place. Shoppers can enjoy a relaxing shopping experience with the added benefit of planning future purchases. Customers using Swishforit can save desirable purchases to lists and build their own virtual high street.

For independent brands, the benefit of increased visibility is helping them to create loyal customers that can return time and time again.

The business model is now focused on developing lasting partnerships with independents who can benefit from the discovery platform and other partner services and benefits, including a wish list button.
