The North Shields Fish Quay Company Ltd was founded in 1993 as a not-for-profit organisation to provide and oversee day to day management of the Fish Quay at North Shields. NSFQ Co operates the quay under the terms and conditions of a 40-year lease arrangement with the Port of Tyne Authority, the lease terms are renewable in 2033. NSFQ Co became operational in January 1994 and in the 24 years since its inception has helped consolidate and enhance North Shields’ position as the premier port on the east coast of England. North Shields is the leading port in England and Wales for Nephrops (Langoustines) landings and retains a vibrant and successful fish market 5 days a week. The improvements to port infrastructure and facilities under NSFQ Co’s stewardship has helped North Shields to become something of a hub for fish sales, processing and transport to the rest of the UK and into Europe.
