North East brewery CANS hit Supermarket Shelves for the first time
Scaleup North East client, Tyne Bank Brewery, has made a name for itself in the North East since first opening in 2011. And now the brewery, led by local woman Julia Austin, has successfully won a contract to supply its beer in cans to ASDA stores regionally.
Whether a lager or real ale drinker these two cans have you covered. Silver Dollar is an award-winning pale ale 4.9% abv, brewed with American Centennial and Amarillo hops, it has a wonderful grapefruit and citrus aroma and finishes with a slightly dry lasting bitterness. Helix is a 5% abv Czech style lager with a clean finish.
Julia Austin, owner of Tyne Bank Brewery, said:
“We’re very excited at the prospect of Silver Dollar and Helix being available regionally! We currently have bottled ales in Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Co-op but it is a wonderful to get a can listing with ASDA. The team have worked hard to achieve this and I'm very proud of them."
Matt Morris, Byker General Store Manager, said:
"Having a local product on the shelves from a brewery just down the road is great for us. Our customers love to shop and buy local, so this is a perfect fit."
There is also a nice twist to the story as brewery worker Steven Shepherd, who has been with Tyne Bank just over a year previously worked for Asda Boldon for 14 years.
Shepherd comments:
"As a lover of beer, when the opportunity to work for Tyne Bank came up I jumped at the chance, but never in a million years did I expect it to link back to my previous employer. It’s a very proud moment to see the beer I made on ASDA shelves."
Both cans are currently available In Byker and Boldon with the rest of the regional stores launching soon.
Tyne Bank Brewery is located on Walker Road, in Ouseburn; the Taproom is open weekly Thursday through Sunday and throughout the year Is host to a variety of events, including Christmas markets and parties.
