Meet our newest ScaleUp Partner, Dan Martin!
Dan Martin is passionate about helping businesses grow, drawing on his experience in launching, scaling, and exiting multiple ventures while specialising in marketing and sales.
What’s your primary focus as a Scaleup Partner at RTC North?
I really want to make a difference to people trying to grow their businesses, I think Scale Up is a perfect place to do that.
What key experience do you bring to the role?
I've been lucky enough to go from starting several businesses from scratch, build, scale and eventually exit. All the 1000's of lumps and bumps on the way has given me a lot of insight into how to navigate a business journey.
What drives your passion for supporting business growth?
I just love the process of building businesses, you can be as creative, ambitious and free as you like. Businesses drive the economy, they employ and they innovate. I feel we should be doing everything we can to support business and entrepreneurs to succeed.
What industries do you specialise in supporting?
I have a real passion for marketing, identifying customers and opportunities, taking products to market and specialise in sales and all things creative.
What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
Its cliché but I feel helping someone and passing on your experience is one of the greatest things you can do. I've been lucky enough to have lots of great people help me out in the past and to give back is an honour.
What’s one piece of advice you consistently share with scaling businesses?
Build a strong culture on a foundation of mutual respect. People follow a great leader and that can only be achieved through building a place where they feel safe, heard and happy. Amazing things happen when you look after the team around you.
What’s a key quality you believe every growth-focused leader should have?
Empathy, I believe you should always try to put yourselves in others shoes to understand what they want and need, whether that's a team member, a supplier or a customer, once you can get into their headspace and really get to understand them it unlocks so much of the mystery, time and pain. Empathy is a superpower.
How do you define successful leadership in the context of business growth?
If a business founder eventually gets to the point they are doing want they want to do day in and day out and they and their team bounce out of bed on a Monday morning then that's a great place to be.
What impact do you hope to have on the businesses you work with?
I hope I can travel on the journey with them, build friendships and see them flourish and thrive. Growing and leading a great business is a real privilege and I want to be a small part of that for our clients.
